Bloemfontein - Final arguments are underway in the murder trial of a 17-year-old Griekwastad boy who stands accused of murdering Deon, Christel and Marthella Steenkamp on their farm, Naauwhoek last year.
State advocate Hannes Cloete is going over testimonies heard earlier in court which contradicts the accused’s version of events the day of the murders.
Cloete said the fact that the Steenkamps were killed with their own weapons is a key point in the case, because no unknown suspects could have had access to the weapons in the house without being seen by one of the Steenkamps.
Northern Cape judge president Frans Kgomo said he’d been wondering why the accused hadn't asked the police about the tyre marks outside one of the gates at Naauwhoek, to which Cloete replied it was because he knew that there weren't any other killers.
Cloete said it’s also evident that the boy tried to mislead police during their investigations. The minor is facing three counts of murder, one of rape and one of defeating the ends of justice.
The trial continues.
