Court orders release of #Bushiri couple─── 05:21 Fri, 20 Nov 2020
The Lilongwe Magistrate's Court in Malawi has allegedly released Shepard Bushiri and his wife, Mary.
The couple handed themselves over to Malawi authorities on Wednesday and were kept in custody overnight. According to the Malawi court, the couple's arrest is illegal, and they will be released with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, it was earlier reported a Centurion property, valued at R5,5-million and owned by the Bushiri fugitives, has been forfeited to the state after the pair violated their bail conditions by leaving South Africa.
South African Magistrate Thandi Theledi asked for the Bushiris to be called three times at their hearing on Thursday.
This was done to record in court that the Bushiris were not present.
The couple's legal team in South Africa said they were not informed of their movements and only know what they have seen in the media.
The magistrate ruled that the Bushiris have forfeited their property which was tied to their bail to the state.
