"It was just really nice to have that support, and I know what it means to so many of the past players to get past this particular hurdle.”

The Proteas batter, David Miller, believes that they finally have the proverbial monkey off their backs after reaching the final of the ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies.

The Proteas thumped Afghanistan by 9-wickets in their semi-final in Trinidad & Tobago to reach a first-ever World Cup final in 18 attempts across both white-ball formats.

While the job isn’t quite done yet, this has taken a lot of pressure off the Proteas, and they believe they have what it takes to go all the way.

The former Knights batter, Miller, told OFM Sport that it means a lot to them and past players such as Dale Steyn to congratulate them after the historic win.

“It's special to have someone like that with us, and he came down to celebrate and congratulate the guys,” Miller said.

“I don't really know what he said to the other guys, but there was a lot of happiness. To me he said ‘I have no words and I can’t really be here anymore because I’m getting really emotional’.

"It was just really nice to have that support, and I know what it means to so many of the past players to get past this particular hurdle.

“For me personally, it was quite special to have Dale there as I spent most of my career with him. I do know what it means for him. It’s just really cool to have that kind of support and guys wanting us to do well.”

The Proteas will face India in Barbados in the final on Saturday. India booked their place in the final with a 68-run win against the outgoing defending champions.

Saturday’s final in Bridgetown gets underway at 16:30.
