Help sought to identify body found on Free State farm─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 08:24 Wed, 25 Dec 2024
Free State police have appealed to the public to help them find any relatives of a man whose decomposed body was discovered on Mortlake farm in the vicinity of Arlington.
The body was found on Tuesday (24/12) by a farm worker walking in a field, said provincial police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring. It was in an advanced state of decomposition.
“We’re urging family members or anyone in the community who may be missing a loved one to urgently approach the Arlington police station. An investigation has been opened to establish the cause of death.”
Since last year, several Free State residents have gone missing, while numerous bodies have been found across the province, often unidentified.
The murder of a Tsoseletso High School teacher by her boyfriend and the case of Disebo Mosupa, an ANC Youth League member and Matjhabeng municipal employee, stand out. Mosupa’s boyfriend was arrested for her murder following the discovery of her body at a cemetery after she had been missing for several days. These incidents have led to protests as government officials, community organisations, and activists marched against gender-based violence.
Meanwhile, Free State police face internal scrutiny. A police officer is under investigation for allegedly fabricating details about the arrest of a man accused of murdering his wife in Bothaville in July.
Anyone with information about the unidentified body found at Mortlake Farm is urged to contact the Arlington Police Station or call the nearest police station.
