Sol Plaatje making headway with smart prepaid meter rollout─── CASEY-LEE ANTHONY 10:19 Tue, 17 Dec 2024
Sol Plaatje Municipality wants to rollout new smart electricity meters to the remaining nine wards by January after having completed the process in 24 of its 33 wards.
“The roll out is continuing in the high-lying residential areas,” said municipal spokesperson Thabo Mothibi. “Our installers are also in Roodepan and Galeshewe for this week.” During installation, they’re also educating users on how the customer interface unit (CIU) works.
Teams are also handing out operational brochures to residents who receive the new smart electricity meters. Those who haven’t received theirs may request a copy from the municipality.
Each CIU comes with additional brochures and manuals, and residents are also encouraged not to remove their units. “A total of 12,300 single phase meters are to be installed by the end of January at various households.”
Municipal workers are easily identifiable by their blue overalls and identification badges with their picture and ID number. The Kimberley-based municipality encourages residents to open their homes to those who have the proper documentation while being cautious of would-be criminals posing as municipal workers.
Customers can contact the call centre on 080 122 9010 or 0800 000 404 for further inquiries or visit the municipal website www.solplaatje.org.za for more information on this critical modernisation project.
