The police’s Serious and Violent Crimes Unit is investigating an alleged house robbery that occurred in West End, Kimberley.

At approximately 04:00 on Sunday (15/9) four men allegedly entered the house and found a man (53), his wife (51), and their son (14) sleeping in one bedroom.

“The unknown suspects, who spoke English, and of which two were wearing balaclavas, apparently threatened the victims with a firearm and tied them up in the bedroom. They subsequently fled the scene with several items belonging to the victims,” said Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergio Kock.

The police are appealing to residents, especially business people, to remain vigilant. They recognise the impact crime has on individuals and businesses and are dedicated to working with the community to prevent it.

Tips to keep safe at home:

• Get a guard dog;
• Install security gates and burglar bars;
• Always lock doors and windows when you leave;
• Consider installing an alarm system and CCTV cameras;
• Do not open the door to strangers;
• Stay aware of your surroundings when you come in or leave;
• Report suspicious persons to the police;
• Don’t leave spare keys in obvious places like mailboxes.
