“The case was postponed for legal aid and possible bail application.”

A Mozambican national has been charged with murder and theft of a motor vehicle following the murder of a Potchefstroom woman.

Sinethemba Mabaso (29) was remanded in custody and will reappear in the Oberholzer Magistrate’s Court on Monday (16/9) for legal aid and possible bail application.

Mabaso made a brief appearance in court on Tuesday (10/9) for the alleged murder and kidnapping of Nomsa Jass (26). He was arrested on Sunday (8/9), said Gauteng NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana.

An operation led by North West and Gauteng police discovered the partially decomposed body of Jass on Sunday (8/9) in the bushes along the R501 road at Blybank, Carletonville.

Meanwhile, North West police spokesperson Amanda Funani added: “Investigations into the matter are continuing and we are searching for the other suspect.”

Her Volkswagen Polo was found abandoned in a parking area at the Daveyton Mall on the East Rand on Wednesday, 28 August.

She was last seen on Sunday (25/8) when she left her workplace at a mall in Potchefstroom and did not report to work the following day. Her employer contacted her family to find out about her absence.

“Jass was reported missing by her family on Tuesday (27/8) after being called by her employee that she did not make it to work,” said North West police spokesperson Adéle Myburgh.
