“A joint operation between the North West and Gauteng police led to the arrest of a Mozambican foreign national in connection with the alleged murder of a 26-year-old Nomsa Jass,” said North West police spokesperson Amanda Funani.

“The suspect was arrested and charged with kidnapping, robbery, and murder. Investigations into the matter, including searching for the other suspect is.”

Jass’s charcoal-coloured Volkswagen Polo was found abandoned in a parking area at the Daveyton Mall on Gauteng’s East Rand on Wednesday (28/8). She was last seen on Sunday (25/8) when she left her workplace at a mall in Potchefstroom and did not report to work the following day. Her employer contacted her family to find out about her absence.

“Jass was reported missing by her family on Tuesday (27/8) after being called by her employee that she did not make it to work,” said North West police spokesperson Adéle Myburgh.

“Her family went to her flat in Meyer Street, Potchefstroom, but couldn’t find her or her vehicle, that is when she was reported missing, and a case was opened at the police station.”

The North West and Gauteng police commissioners welcomed the arrest, adding no stone will be left unturned to ensure that justice is served.
