A man (30) facing murder charges is expected to appear in the Stilfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday (9/9) for allegedly poisoning his son (4).

According to information, the suspect and his girlfriend (27) were separated, said North West police spokesperson Amanda Funani. The suspect went to her home in Kanana, Klerksdorp, on Friday night (30/8) and demanded to be given his three children (8, 4, 2).

On Saturday morning (31/8), the girlfriend eventually consented on condition her brother accompanied the children. However, on arrival at his place, the boyfriend ordered the children’s uncle to go back home. The uncle left with the four-year-old, leaving behind the two boys. 

The children’s mother received a call from the boyfriend that day informing her that he was about to do something. The mother then called the children’s grandmother, who informed her they were on their way to hospital after the suspect allegedly poisoned himself and the two children.

The two-year-old was in a bad condition. It was later discovered the eight-year-old wasn’t affected as he didn’t swallow what the father gave him. The two-year-old died in hospital. The father was arrested on Thursday (5/9), after being discharged from hospital.
