Mangaung worker’s body discovered near R702─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 12:41 Tue, 20 Aug 2024
“The daughter of the deceased later took to social media to confirm that the deceased was indeed her mother.”
A body believed to be that of a Mangaung Metro employee has been discovered in a veld near the R702.
Her daughter in Bloemfontein requested the public’s assistance in locating her mother, who never came back home after going to work on Friday (16/8).
Free State police have meanwhile called on the public to help identify the body of a woman found in an open veld at around 10:00 on Saturday (17/8). The body was burnt from the chest to the face with the T-shirt pulled above the breasts, said police spokesperson Thabo Covane.
A long brown braided hairstyle could be recognised. The deceased had stab wounds to her inner left thigh and bruises indicating a struggle and possibly being dragged.
Following the call by the police, her daughter took to social media to confirm that the deceased was her mother. She thanked all those who were involved in assisting her to locate her mother.
In 2018, the body of Seipati Lechoano, who was also a Mangaung Metro employee, was found in her car in the basement parking lot of the Bram Fischer Building. She was found with her hands and feet tied up, but with no visible injuries on her body.
The scourge of gender-based violence (GBV) continues to raise concerns in the province despite calls by leaders of various political parties, provincial government, organisations and churches to end it.
Recently, Andile Sinyoko (42), the alleged boyfriend of Disebo Portia Mosupa (30), was arrested after her body was exhumed by forensic investigators in a Welkom cemetery. Mosupa, who was an ANCYL member and a Matjhabeng employee, was found buried in an old grave at Thabong on Friday (19/7), after she’d been missing for days.
In her recent opening of the Provincial Legislature, Free State Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae made a powerful call to action against the escalating violence against women in the province. She highlighted a series of recent incidents that have brought the issue into sharp focus.
One involved a Department of Social Development worker who was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend in Thaba Nchu. In response to these alarming trends, Letsoha-Mathae announced the provincial government would allocate more resources to support shelters and safe houses for survivors of GBV.
