Free State police have arrested the driver of a white Opel Corsa bakkie involved in a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a woman (53) and the injury of a man (64) in Selosesha, Thaba Nchu.
The incident occurred on Saturday (3/8) around 02:00. According to police reports the victim was at her home in Selosesha when she received a call from her boyfriend (45), which startled her. Concerned for her safety, she asked her brother to accompany her to the police station around 02:30.
As they walked along Ditaunyane Street, the driver of a white Opel Corsa bakkie reportedly sped towards them. The vehicle struck the elderly man before reversing and hitting the woman, driving over her, and fleeing the scene.
‘The woman succumbed to her injuries at the hospital’
A police patrol vehicle arrived shortly after the incident, while emergency medical personnel were called to the scene. The woman succumbed to her injuries in hospital, while the elderly man remains hospitalised.
Free State police spokesperson Mahlomola Kareli said a man (45) handed himself over to police on Monday (5/8) and a white Corsa utility bakkie was seized after cases of murder and attempted murder were opened for further investigation.
