“We have lost a gentleman of the Club, a person who would put his own interest aside to help others first.”

A Kimberley businessman has been shot dead outside his home.

On Wednesday (31/7) at around 21:00, the victim and his wife were approached by an unknown man who fired several shots at them in their Toyota Hilux Bakkie, fatally wounding the husband.

“The victim and his spouse were at the gate entering into their townhouse complex when an unknown man allegedly approached and fired several shots into the vehicle,” said Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergio Kock.

Apparently the couple, Jayson (28) and Micayla Afriqué (27), were followed to their home in New Park. He tried to shelter his wife from the shots fired at the car, which led to him being severely injured.

Afriqué was an active member of the CC Riders Club, as well as in the Kimberley community.

“Jayson followed in the footsteps of many of his family members, who were and are still keen bikers,” said Kimberley CC Rider Michael Muller. “Being a member of the club in good standing, he was always available to dirty his hands with projects and programmes; from transporting stuff to and from our events to collecting and disposal of waste bags.”

He owned various businesses in the City of Diamonds, and many knew him for his friendly and helpful client services.

“He had a permanent smile on his face and always displayed respect towards others. He was loved by all, regardless of which Clubs people belonged to. We have lost a gentleman of the club, a person who would put his own interest aside to help others first.

“As the messages of sympathy pour in, the club would like to extend our deepest condolences to his parents, siblings, his wife, and the broader family. We will deeply miss his presence in our lives.”

Any person who can assist with information regarding the incident can contact the Warrant Officer Thabang Kamolane on 082 302 0407 or during office hours on 053 838 4344.

All information will be treated confidentially. Police investigations are continuing.
