“This initiative aims to collect R24 million in 2024 to support various student needs and foster sustainable community projects.”

The Solutionary Walk in commemoration of Youth Month will be more than 600 km from Maseru in Lesotho to Krugersdorp in Gauteng. The aim is to raise awareness and funds.

“This initiative aims to collect R24 million in 2024 to support various student needs and foster sustainable community projects,” said Toka Moroke, founder of the initiative.

He said the Solutionary Walk’s key objectives include alleviating unemployment, providing essential tertiary education funding, and tackling social and economic inequality.

All funds will be allocated across these main streams:

  • Supporting tertiary student needs including accommodation, transportation, food, and tuition fees.
  • Funding the annual Grade 12 farewell ceremony for any school that requires support and identifying candidates for tertiary education support.
  • Implementing sustainable economic solutions in communities, particularly benefiting parents of learners and unemployed youth.

A diverse team of 14 walkers from various universities started the journey from the University of Lesotho on Wednesday (26/6).

Their strategically planned route includes stops at schools, universities, and community organisations to promote the walk, inspire local communities, and offer career exhibitions.

The walkers reached Bloemfontein by Friday (28/6), engaging with the community in Phase 4 through a career exhibition, emphasising the importance of education and career planning.

The Solutionary Walk calls upon citizens and the private and public sectors to contribute generously. Their goal translates into just R24 from one million people, or any other generous donations, to drive a lasting generational impact.

‘Solutionary Walk inspires youth to take proactive steps’

Through their efforts, the Solutionary Walk inspires youth to take proactive steps in resolving community issues and creating sustainable change.

Their journey will continue from Bloemfontein to Welkom (154 km), Welkom to Kroonstad (68 km), Kroonstad to Vanderbiljpark (127 km), and from Vanderbiljpark to Johannesburg (70 km) where they will have reached their destination.
