Introducing CENTLEC's Token Identifier Rollover─── 08:52 Fri, 31 May 2024
Sponsored08:52 Fri, 31 May 2024Are you a CENTLEC prepaid electricity customer? It's time to ensure uninterrupted power supply with CENTLEC's Token Identifier (TID) Rollover initiative.
OFM News's Casey-Lee Anthony spoke to CENTLEC’s Lele Mamatu to find out more.
What is Token Identifier (TID)?
The Token Identifier (TID) is a unique code that identifies each prepaid electricity token generated. It ensures secure and accurate transactions between customers and the electricity meter.
What is TID Rollover?
TID Rollover is the process of resetting the TID memory in the meter and changing the meter key to prevent old tokens from being reused. This is essential for maintaining the security and reliability of prepaid electricity systems.
Why does CENTLEC have to change/update the TID memory on the meter?
As part of international standards, the TID memory in prepaid electricity meters must be reset after a certain lifespan (31.9 years) to ensure continued functionality and security. Failure to update the TID memory could result in meters no longer accepting new tokens, leading to disruptions in electricity supply.
Project Rollout Plan
CENTLEC (SOC) Ltd. is rolling out the TID Rollover project to all prepaid customers in Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality and other serviced areas. The project commenced on June 1st, 2023, and is crucial for maintaining seamless electricity services.
What will happen with the credit that is on the meter once the STS Version is changed?
Rest assured, the credit on your meter will not be affected during the TID Rollover process. Your prepaid electricity balance will remain intact, ensuring continued access to power.
What will happen with the tokens that were never used after the meter firmware upgrade?
Tokens purchased before the firmware upgrade must be entered into the meter before the update to ensure they remain usable. After the upgrade, the meter will not accept tokens purchased prior to the update.
Customer Guidance
To facilitate a smooth transition, customers are advised to follow these steps:
- Enter all old tokens into the meter before the firmware update.
- Upon activation by our ITC department, use the three tokens provided with your first purchase to initiate the update.
- Ensure tokens purchased before the update are loaded onto the meter before the update is complete.
