Zeerust learners recovering after fatal N4 collision─── 11:32 Mon, 04 Mar 2024
“The learners were passengers in the taxi and sustained injuries.”
Two learners from the Zeerust Combined School are among those injured in a head-on collision on the N4 near the Tweefontein Junction in North West.
The accident happened on Friday (1/3) when a taxi and a vehicle collided and caught fire. At least four people died. The taxi was travelling from Zeerust to the Dinokana Village.
The North West Department of Education has expressed its sadness after the incident. The department wished the learners a speedy recovery.

According to the North West Department of Education spokesperson, Mphata Molokwane, the learners were passengers in the taxi and sustained injuries. One learner injured a leg while the other injured a foot. He said they are receiving medical attention at the Zeerust Hospital and are stable.
According to the North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, a total of twelve people died in three different accidents on Friday.

The MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the injured learners and wished for a speedy and full recovery. “The well-being of our learners is our top priority. We are committed to providing them with the necessary support during this difficult time.”
According to Molokwane, the department has contacted the school principal, district officials, and the learner’s families to offer full support.
The Department of Education officials are expected to visit the Zeerust Combined School on Monday (4/2), where psychological help will be provided to learners and their families.
