“To guarantee the provision of quality education and to raise the standards of education in public schools, parents should lead in the SGBs.”
The North West Department of Education MEC, Viola Motsumi, has urged parents to play a role in their schools' elections of the 2024 School Governing Body (SGB).
On Friday (23/2), the department officially launched this year's SGB elections at Victory Primary School in Mahikeng.
Motsumi said to guarantee the provision of quality education and to raise the standards of education in public schools, parents should lead in the SGBs.

Molokwane indicated that the department has declared 2024 SGB election dates to be administered from 1 – 31 March 2024, at 1 400 schools around the province.

“I want to express my gratitude to the departing SGB members for their time and dedication, and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), which is crucial to the smooth running of the election process,” said Motsumi.
The school governing body is expected to encourage excellence and ensure the smooth and effective functioning of the school.
According to Motsumi, the IEC has further provided the department with vital support in the election guidelines.
