Opening of Kingspark Rose Garden a great success

A jubilant atmosphere filled the air as Kingspark Rose Garden welcomed visitors of all ages, races, and cultures to its official opening on Saturday (17/2), with a family braai day.

“About 50 people attended the family day. It was very nice, young children were running around, and there was a group celebrating a 16th birthday, which we were very excited about,” said Boeta Swart, founder of the NGO Anchor of Hope, which led the rejuvenation project. “The Mangaung municipality also came to support us and also to underwrite this project,” he added.

To ensure the safety and well-being of all visitors, Anchor of Hope enlisted the services of Senforce security personnel and ER24 paramedics, providing peace of mind for attendees to relax and enjoy the festivities without worry.

“Spaces like these are needed because we bring our children to these parks. We also come here to relax and enjoy,” said Bloemfontein resident Telford Nebisi.

A group of friends, once students in Bloemfontein, returned to the city for the weekend and seized the opportunity to attend the park’s opening. They remember the park being closed for years before the recent revival.

“It gives a feeling of hope that there are still people in Bloemfontein who see the need for public spaces and take the effort and time to do this,” said Gwynn Azar. “I studied here many years ago and for many years this park was closed so, it is unbelievable that there are people who have a passion for reviving public spaces.”

OFM News also spoke to a family who came to the park to relax and enjoy their Saturday. Miendri Brits said it was wonderful to be outside and to relax in nature, next to the water.

Swart said they were in communication with the municipality to see how many days they can open the park to the public and they will support whatever decision they take.
