Emoyamed Bloemfontein: meeting the needs of the community | News Article

Emoyamed Bloemfontein kicked off its operations on 1 February 2024 under new ownership, as well as a new hospital manager. The name of the hospital has also changed from Emoyamed Private Hospital to Emoyamed Bloemfontein.

Mid-Morning Magic's Yolanda Maartens spoke to Emoyamed Bloemfontein’s hospital manager, Dr Franco Erasmus, about what is planned for the hospital in the future. Listen here:

The hospital consists of – and is licensed for – three state of the art operating theatres, 17 intensive care beds, 55 acute care beds, 19 acute rehabilitation beds and 25 sub-acute beds. The re-opening of the Emergency Centre is also in the pipeline for the near future.

Emoyamed Bloemfontein is situated in a tranquil estate in the heart of the Free State. Patients’ loved ones are welcome to stay over at the hotel and make use of pristine facilities such as the day spa – whilst patients receive their required medical attention.

“We are excited to commence with the specialist medical services that is offered at the hospital and intend to deliver an excellent service to patients in Central South-Africa. Emoyamed Bloemfontein is ready to tend to the medical needs of our community and will take extensive measures to ensure the safety of our patients, staff, and doctors,” Dr Franco Erasmus, Hospital Manager, explains.

“We truly believe that the hospital will provide the Bloemfontein community with broader access to safe, private medical care,” Erasmus continues. Specialist medical disciplines admitting to the hospital includes Internal Medicine, Intensive Care, Rheumatology, Neurology, Oncology, General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Gynaecology and Plastic Surgery. Acute rehabilitation for various medical conditions is offered by a multidisciplinary team in a dedicated rehabilitation ward.

The Radiology Department – headed by Dr Seboco as chief radiologist – will deliver state of the art imaging via two MRI scans and a CT scan. Emoyamed Bloemfontein pride ourselves in our well-equipped theatres. Some of the equipment includes, but is not limited to, a neuro navigation system that enables the Neurosurgeons to perform advanced procedures.

"Emoyamed Bloemfontein is ideally located just outside the hustle and bustle of city life," says Dr Marisan Nienkemper, a Specialist Physician in practice at the hospital. "It’s a place where patients are not regarded as just another bed number, but as a person with a body and spirit."

"This is a place where a patient can properly heal and be cared for by a team that cares passionately," Nienkemper adds.

According to William du Plessis, Managing Director of Emoyamed Bloemfontein, the board of directors consider it a great privilege, as well as responsibility, to manage Emoyamed Bloemfontein functionally and effectively. "We want to provide top quality service to the community," du Plessis says.
