“No arrests have been made yet and the search continues.”

Botshabelo police have discovered two male and two female bodies near a stream in the area between Monday (22/1) to Friday (2/1). The bodies were found with multiple stab wounds.

Four cases of murder were opened in Selosesha and are under investigation.  A team of skilled investigators was assigned to trace and arrest suspects involved in the gruesome murders.

Botshabelo police were called to a murder scene at the stream on Monday (22/1), where two people came across a body of an unknown male between 45 and 50 years of age, floating in the water.

“Police divers were summoned and the body was taken out. The deceased had multiple stab wounds in the chest and thighs.  His throat was slit and his hands and feet were tied and bags of sand were wrapped around them,” said Free State police spokesperson Motantsi Makhele.

“The deceased is still unknown and police have opened a case of murder for further investigation.”

A family reported their mother (52) to be missing on Monday (29/1) when she did not come back from the mall. A search was immediately launched by the Botshabelo police and nearby stations.

On Thursday (1/2) police were summoned to another murder scene where they discovered the decapitated body of an old female. The investigating officer called a family member to the scene who confirmed that the decapitated body was that of their mother.

“While the Public Order Policing unit was searching for the deceased’s body part they came across another decomposed body of a female floating in the water, about 50 meters from the first scene,” said Makhele.

“The body had bags full of stones fastened to it to prevent it from floating. The deceased is unknown at this stage and investigations were launched.”

The last body was discovered on Friday (2/2) when police were searching between the railway line and stream and they came across a body with multiple stab wounds and hands tied with a rope. The deceased hasn’t been identified yet.

“All four bodies had multiple stab wounds and were discovered next to one another inside the stream that ran beside the railway line on the other side of the N8, in an area filled with thick and dense vegetation.”

The investigations continue.
