“The victim was wearing white tekkies, grey trackpants and white tracktop and his body was retrieved from the water by SAPS diving unit.”
Bloemfontein police have asked the public to help identify a man whose body was discovered floating under the Dr Belcher Bridge near the Centlec headquarters.
Free State police spokesperson Thabo Covane said police were summoned to the scene on Sunday (31/12) at 15:00. When they arrived, they discovered the body of an unknown man floating under the bridge.
The road running under the bridge has been closed as it’s flooded. Videos of people swimming there in flood water have meanwhile been doing the rounds on social media platforms.
‘The cause of death is under investigation’
Covane said the victim was wearing white tekkies, grey trackpants and a white tracktop. His body was retrieved from the water by the police’s diving unit.
The cause of his death is under investigation and can only be made known after the results of the postmortem are announced.
Parkweg police have opened an inquest and are pleading with anyone who might have information that may help with investigation, to contact Detective Captain Liebenberg on 082 773 2351 or visit their nearest police station.
