The Free State police are searching for suspects following the murder of a Welkom teacher.

Letsete Secondary School teacher Sipho Mothekhe (32) was last seen leaving LDK Tavern in Thabong after a night out with friends at around 02:00 on Sunday (2/12). He reportedly told friends he was on his way to visit Limpopo Tavern, in the same township.

His girlfriend, whose name has not been disclosed by police, tried to call him later that morning, but couldn’t get hold of him. She went to his home at about 16:20. When she saw his Volkswagen Polo wasn’t in the yard, she entered the house, discovered his body, and sought help from neighbours.

“On arrival, the police saw the kitchen and front burglar doors had been forced open. The door was also broken,” said Free State police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng. “The house (had been) ransacked.”

Mothekhe was found with multiple wounds and injuries, said Thakeng. A garden spade was found next to his body, whilst his car, cellphone and TV were missing. The car was found abandoned in Virginia later the same day.

OFM News previously reported the body of Bainsvlei teacher Khethiwe Nkambule (48) was found in the South Park Cemetery in Bloemfontein a week ago. No one has yet been arrested for her murder.
