The mayor of the DA-led municipality in the Free State has been accused of unduly claiming cash for petrol running into thousands.

The Fezile Dabi executive mayor Dennis Khasudi is said to have claimed for petrol running to over R11 000. EFF regional chairperson, April Motaung, said this despite Khasudi having a municipal credit card allowing such benefits. Motaung has since slammed Khasudi and accused him of capture. A document shared with the media shows that R11,460 was claimed during March 2023. But Motaung said this is not an isolated incident as there are many instances where Khasudi claimed more money on different occasions. He has threatened to reveal more of the alleged saga involving the mayor.

Contacted by OFM News for a comment following the allegations Khasudi said no comment. The party recently opened another criminal case against a  senior accounting officer in the municipality. This was after the party accused the accounting officer of trying to silence the party’s regional leader by allegedly paying him a double salary.

Motaung said this was an attempt to silence him in what they term a fight for clean governance. This comes after the municipality decided to pay the regional chair and party leader twice and this was a deliberate act to silence him. This follows allegations that senior municipal officials were overpaying themselves but unfortunately in this instance, they met their match, an incorruptible public servant,” Motaung said.

OFM News previously reported that an anonymous person had blown the whistle on alleged fraud and corruption at the Fezile Dabi Municipality.

An inquiry sent to the office of the Municipal Manager by the Municipality's Public Accounts Committee has since shed light on alleged fraud and corruption involving senior officials. The anonymous whistle-blower tipped off the committee led by Motaung, about the alleged over R200,000 fraud and corruption matter, involving senior officials at the municipality. Motaung has since confirmed to OFM News they have received the tip-off and sent questions to the municipality.
