“The government is committed to ensuring that our people have title deeds, so every Friday, we will be issuing them.”

The Free State government issued title deeds to Kroonstad-based Moqhaka residents on Friday (3/11) at the Constantia Community Hall.

There are over 2,500 title deeds that have already been issued to Moqhaka residents.

“There are about 16,000 title deeds which ought to be issued in the province. This is aimed at ensuring the security of tenure for our people,” said the Minister of Human Settlements, Mmamoloko Kubayi.

While in attendance, the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Ketso Makume, stated that efforts are underway to eliminate asbestos roofing and mud homes throughout the province.

One of the recipients of the title deeds was a 105-year-old Nkgono Raphuti, who was born in Kroonstad and only received her title deed a century later, making her a proud homeowner.

Minister Kubayi also spoke to one of the officials from the Moqhaka Municipality to ensure that Raphuthi receive a wheelchair as she had problems walking because of her old age.
