“The Malawian national appeared before the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Monday (23/10) and his case was postponed to 3 November for an interpreter.”
The case against the father (31) accused of raping his one-month-old baby has been postponed.
The NPA's regional spokesperson in the Gauteng Division, Lumka Mahanjana, said the Malawian national appeared before the Brits Magistrate's on Monday (23/10) and his case was postponed to 3 November for an interpreter.
OFM News previously reported on Thursday (19/10) that the mother had left her baby sleeping next to the father inside their home and went to prepare food outside. The mother heard the baby cry. When she rushed to the room to check what was happening, she allegedly found both the father and the baby naked and the baby bleeding.
The mother screamed and neighbours came to help her. The child was taken to hospital for a medical examination and was subsequently admitted.
The civil society-led organisation Moral Regeneration Movement in North West has since described the shocking incident as despicable and atrocious. The organisation also called on the courts to restore confidence in the criminal justice system. The accused will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
