A 31-year-old gun-wielding suspect is in custody following a high-speed chase that led to his arrest in the Northern Cape.
The suspect was arrested on the N8, approximately 15km from the city, en route to Kimberley, for an alleged armed robbery early Saturday morning (23/9).
Details of the robbery have not been revealed but spokesperson Sergio Kock said the Kimberley Flying Squad followed up on information, stopped and searched the white Toyota Hilux bakkie.
The suspect was allegedly en route from Petrusburg after being involved in an armed robbery. Kock said police searched the vehicle and found a 9mm pistol with the serial number filed off, as well as ammunition.

“The bakkie was also confiscated as it was allegedly utilised in the commission of a crime. The 31-year-old suspect was arrested for having an unlicensed firearm and ammunition that could possibly be linked to the armed robbery in Petrusburg. The suspect will appear in court soon," Kock said.
Koliswa Otola commended the Kimberley Flying Squad for their vigilance and professional approach, which resulted in the arrest and recovery of an illegal firearm.
"We are observing Police Safety Month and encourage SAPS members to be operational ready at all times and ensure that their safety and that of their colleagues are a priority at all times," Otola said.
