St. Andrew’s celebrates 160 years of brotherhood─── ZENANDE MPAME 12:09 Wed, 13 Sep 2023
On 16 November a formal 160th dinner will be held and the entire St. Andrew's community is invited to join.
Over the weekend, the St. Andrew's School in Bloemfontein hosted its annual reunion and former students from all over the country came to reminisce their school days.
At this year's reunion, two former principals before Ronald Rudd attended this event. Chris Thomas from Cape Town was the principal from 2007 until 2021 and Roy Gordon from Kenton-on-Sea was the principal from 1986 until 2006.

“We hosted our reunion over the weekend and Old Boys from the US, UK, and Australia came to visit and share in the festivities,” said Principal of St. Andrew’s Ronald Rudd.
“The weekend kicked off on Friday afternoon when the Old Boys got together and played golf and soccer. After soccer, we all got together for a big potjiekos.”
On Saturday a ceremony was held where plagues of Old Boys' names who had passed away were unveiled and put on the wall of remembrance.

There were also hockey and cricket matches followed by a formal dinner.
The community came together in the chapel on Sunday morning to recognise the 160th celebrations and all Old Boys who were part of the chapel choir back in the day took part in a mass choir rendition at the end of the service.
“St. Andrew’s is a special school that is based on Christianity, old school values like manners and respect are still very important. We have managed to maintain a modern approach to Christianity that our boys can relate to.”

“There have been many developments since I was at the school, for instance, we are currently building our state-of-the-art Astro, our indoor cricket centre has been built, and we have an outdoor cricket centre near the Gariep dam and we also have a new pre-primary school,” said Gregg Hobson who matriculated in 1999 and is the director of cricket at St. Andrew’s.
Hobson said he has a family history of more than 100 years at the school as his grandfather also attended the school.
