The body of an unidentified man was discovered lying by the side of the road in Grassland, outside of Bloemfontein, with an open wound on the forehead on Tuesday (7/9).

Someone who was heading to work at around 05:00 discovered the body after an assault. The police responded to the scene and a murder case was opened at the Bloemspruit Police Station.

Free State police spokesperson Thabo Covane said the deceased is believed to be in his early thirties.

At 07:00, a second body was discovered in Phase 7, still near the Bloemspruit Police Station. The deceased was identified as 43-year-old Makoos Emmah Kortman, who had multiple stab wounds on the side of the neck and chest.

The police were called to the scene and another murder case was registered at the Bloemspruit Police Station.

Covane urged any members of the public who might help to identify the body found in Grassland; and have information that can help in the investigation of the two cases or lead to the arrest of the suspects, to contact Sergeant Kendrick Barnes at 082-5277-390.
