A 24-year-old woman and her 30-year-old husband appeared in the Thaba Nchu Magistrate’s Court yesterday (16/8) for defeating the ends of justice, contravening the Immigration Act, and corruption. Their case was postponed to Thursday (24/8).
Their arrest comes after a male was found with 42 Smart card IDs, one Lesotho passport, 55 South African ID books, 105 bank cards from different RSA banking institutions, and a birth certificate at a house in Selosesha last Friday (11/8).
The 28-year-old man was arrested, appeared in court, and was kept in custody until his next court appearance for a formal bail application on Thursday (24/8).
To get their brother out of jail, the couple managed to get hold of the suspect's expired passport, which was kept as an exhibit, renewed it, and returned it to court. Their actions were noticed by the investigating officer and they were arrested.
