DA in Metsimaholo to picket against removal of mayor─── ZENANDE MPAME 11:21 Wed, 26 Jul 2023
Members of the DA have planned to picket outside of the council meeting scheduled for Tuesday (1/8) at the Harry Gwala multi-purpose centre in Zamdela, Sasolburg, at 12:00.
DA Free State Leader, Roy Jankielsohn, Federal Council Chairperson, Helen Zille, public representatives and activists will show their support for the DA’s Mayor Jeff Zwane, and his executive on the day of the council meeting.
“ANC members are going to attempt to bring a motion of no confidence against the mayor, Mr Jefff Zwane,” said Jankielsohn.
The reason for the motion of no confidence is that the DA blocked payments to a developer after they realised that they do not owe the company, and many other issues were raised by the opposition parties.
“We see this as the opposition parties' hidden plot to rob the municipality. The budget for service delivery would be completely exhausted if this money is illegally paid,” said Jankielsohn.
Zwane has urged law enforcement organisations to look into criminal intimidation techniques used by individuals working for opposing parties against law-abiding officials.
