Kimberley women to represent SA at tug-of-war world championships─── ZENANDE MPAME 08:04 Thu, 13 Jul 2023
The 2023 tug-of-war world outdoor championship is kicking off in Sursee, Switzerland, on 31 August. The annual event runs until 3 September, with teams competing against each other in a test of strength.
Charmaine van Rhyn from Kimberley is part of the team who will be representing South Africa at the event, which is the largest tug-of-war competition in the world. She has been participating in the sport since 2019.

“We are privileged to represent our country and we are very excited,” said the 46-year-old.

Van Rhyn and her teammates are busy raising funds for their travel, accommodation and outfit costs, which they have to cover themselves.
The 2026 World Championship will take place in Mossel Bay in the Western Cape.
