The Deputy Minister of Police, Cassel Mathale, is expected to update the nation on the ongoing weekly high-density operations which police are embarking on, also known as Operation Shanela.
The briefing will take place in the Mangaung Metropolitan's headquarters in Bloemfontein in the Free State later Friday morning.
The national police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, said Mathale, together with the Acting National Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, will also address a three-day SAPS summit that has mobilised young men from all corners of the country to develop strategies and plans to prevent and combat Gender-based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) crimes. Mosikili is the first female Deputy National Commissioner within the SAPS.

Operation Shanela comes a day after police raided the Southpark landfill site in a joint operation with Mangaung Metro and other stakeholders.
“Police were looking for weapons, ammunition, drugs, and stolen goods. They are presently occupied with the processing of the persons who have been detained, and the confiscated goods,” said Free State police spokesperson Loraine Earle.
The raid came after two brothers nearly lost their lives at the site, where they were attacked and shot at by four unknown males.
Mangaung Metro spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, said the municipality is looking into addressing current waste challenges in the area.
