Two to appear in court for stolen property worth R1.7 million | News Article
The state intends to oppose the suspects' bail application.

Three provisional charges against two suspects include gangsterism, stealing, and interference with critical infrastructure.

The Bafokeng Magistrate's Court postponed a case against Aubrey Loeto (43) and Thys Monchusi (37) to 23 June 2023 for a formal bail application. The state intends to oppose their bail application.

They were arrested on Thursday 15 June 2023.

Loeto works as a security officer for Bidvest Protea Coin Security, and Monchusi works at Impala Platinum Mine.

The Rustenburg Organised Crime Unit received a tip-off from the Bidvest Protea Coin concerning one of the company's cars that were seen transporting catalytic converters from the Impala Platinum Mine.

The movement of the car was monitored by the police, and this led them to a residence in the Lemenong section of Phokeng.

Loeto and Monchusi confirmed that the goods were stolen from the platinum mine.

The two also stated that a third party, who is an ally of theirs, is connected to the crime.

They will remain in police custody until their next court appearance, while the search for the third suspect continues.
