JB Marks Municipality battles with waste collection─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:58 Tue, 13 Jun 2023
Waste collection in the JB Marks Municipality has recently been lacking, leaving residents in a dire situation.
The municipality has confirmed that waste has not been collected for the past three weeks. JB Marks spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite, explained that most vehicles in their waste truck fleet are undergoing routine maintenance and repairs. She stated that their release from service providers has been delayed. This has caused more delays in the waste collection services the municipality renders.

The DA’s Hans-Jurie Moolman previously informed OFM News residents of the JB Marks municipality were left stranded due to R4 billion spent on unauthorised, irregular and wasteful expenditures over the past ten years.
"Currently, there is a significant drop in revenue collection in the municipality, primarily due to a lack of accountability, which results in a lack of service delivery. In order to provide services, the municipality must generate revenue. So, if services are not provided because of a lack of accountability, you also see a drop in revenue and the money that we need to provide services to our people,” said Moolman.
Meanwhile, Tshite said the waste management team will be working tirelessly to ensure that the waste collection situation returns to normal.
She also apologised to residents for the inconvenience these unforeseen interruptions caused.
