Police find bodies after fire at municipal storeroom─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 10:31 Fri, 05 May 2023
The bodies of three unidentified people were found after a fire destroyed a municipal storeroom in Fourth Street, Welkom, in the early hours of Wednesday (03/05).
Loraine Earle, spokesperson of the police in the Free State, said the building was burnt to the ground. "Further investigations by the police led to the discovery of three bodies burnt beyond recognition. It could not be detected if they were male or female."
Earle said the storeroom was used to keep water metres, plastic water pipes and documents.
It is still unclear what caused the fire. It is alleged the building is an abandoned municipal building and the people who died were homeless.
OFM News has sent an enquiry to the Matjhabeng Municipality.
