North West education intends to fill vacant posts to improve matric results─── 12:08 Fri, 07 Apr 2023
The North West MEC for Education is on a mission to improve the year-end results of matriculants by filling vacant positions in the department.
MEC Viola Motsumi met with stakeholders as well as the chief directorate of curriculum, institutional governance and support officials.
Her goal for the province is to be among the top three best-performing provinces in the country with regard to matric results.
"Upon my probing of the officials, I have picked up that the issue of vacant posts and a large number of acting positions, contributes to poor performance," said Motsumi.
In 2022's matric results, the North West achieved 79.8%, with an increase of 1.6%.
Motsumi said she decided to address this challenge by filling vacant positions and focusing more on resourcing technical schools, as well as ensuring that teachers who are qualified in technical subjects are recruited.
