Traffic blocked on R507 due to community protests─── 09:31 Tue, 04 Apr 2023
Angry residents of Letsopa near Ottosdal in the North West closed the R507 on Tuesday morning over dissatisfaction with the recruitment process for a road project in the area.
The North West Department of Public Works earlier this year handed over a rehabilitation project of the road between Ottosdal and Delareyville. Residents are not happy with the transparency of it.
Resident Basimane Modirwe told OFM News the contractor has never been introduced, but people are already working.
Traffic flow has been affected since 06:00, with vehicles having to turn around.
Letlhogonolo Motji of the Forum 4 Service Delivery (F4SD) said councillors have hired beneficiaries of the ANC, without engaging the community at all.
Over 100 people have barricaded the intersection entering Letsopa with rocks and other objects. The situation is calm at the moment.
