Schools across Northern Cape to start autumn school─── BAMBATHA GIKO 13:03 Thu, 30 Mar 2023
A total of 3 743 learners from 122 schools across the province are expected to attend the province's 19 autumn camps.
The Northern Cape Department of Education has announced it will host its annual autumn camps for Grade 12 learners from 30 March to 6 April 2023. The camps will primarily focus on progressed learners, borderline learners and top-achieving learners, and will take place at schools that underperformed in the focus subjects in the 2022 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.
Education MEC Zolile Monakale said the programme has been designed to enhance Grade 12 learners’ performance, especially in difficult subjects highlighted in the 2022 NSC.
The department believes the programme will contribute to an improvement in the overall learner academic performance and success rate of Grade 12 learners. This, as the programme is said to allow learners to put their skills into practice through revision exercises and content consolidation.
“The Autumn Camp Programme will consist of a series of daily presentations and tutorials with the consolidation of content as the main driver of the programme. Learners will also be given notes, exercises and suggested solutions each day on the topics covered and past Grade 12 examination papers,” Monakale said.
He said experienced teachers, with a record of high learner achievement, will provide tutoring to assist learners with a conceptual understanding of the core topics that they will be examined on in their final examinations.
He added Life Orientation sessions on Life Skills and Career Pathing will also be infused into the programme at the camp for top-achieving learners.
