The Ramotlhajwe Primary School in the Moses Kotane Local Municipality has been given a much-needed facelift, following a visit from the speaker of the North West Legislature, Basetsana Sussana Dantjie, on Monday.

According to the spokesperson of the Legislature Namhla Luhambe, the visit to the school comes after the commitment that the speaker made during the Mandela Day commemoration on 18 July 2022, where she promised to complete painting the school. Luhambe says Dantjie donated school furniture and sanitary towels, and painted the school as promised. Dantjie further handed over school shoes to some children.

The Department of Education came under scrutiny over allegations of the closure of two schools over issues of dilapidated infrastructure. This, after the EFF Provincial Secretary in the North West Papiki Babuile, informed OFM News that the Klipgat Secondary School in Madibeng in the Bojanala District, and the Thule Primary School in the Ratlou District, were closed by the Department of Labour after the inspectors deemed the building unsafe for learners.

MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi, raised concerns over infrastructure challenges faced by many schools in North West. She, however, stated that the infrastructure unit within the department is hard at work in respect of attending to all schools with infrastructural problems. She had also requested communities to present challenges they may be experiencing in various schools on the department's Facebook page. Motsumi said challenges have been reported on social media platforms relating to the ageing of school infrastructure, sanitation, placing of pupils, learner transport, overcrowding, school safety, and many others. As a result, the majority of challenges reported have since been resolved and others are still being attended to.
