ANC MP remains behind bars─── LUCKY NKUYANE 09:42 Sat, 28 Jan 2023
ANC Member of Parliament (MP) at the National Assembly in North West, who is accused of murdering his 31-year-old wife, remains behind bars following a bail application process.
On Friday, 27 January 2023, the Orkney Magistrate's Court near Kanana outside Klerksdorp in the North West reserved judgment in his bail application.
The 34-year-old Sibusiso Kula has been in jail since his arrest on Friday 20 January 2023.
He was arrested after the police linked him to his wife's murder, which took place on 27 November 2022 at their place of residence in Kanana.
The mother of two was found with a stab wound to her back and later died in hospital after she was allegedly rushed to the health facility by Kula.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) Henry Mamothame, the matter has since been remanded for judgment on Tuesday 31 January 2023.
Kula is facing a murder charge following the death of his wife. The state and the defence attorney read affidavits in their arguments.
He further took a stand in his pursuit of being granted bail.
"The state also pleaded with the court not to grant Kula bail, as it saw no compelling circumstances. The state further argued that the offence being a schedule 6 criminal matter, should warrant the court not to grant him bail as he is charged with premeditated murder."
Police reports reveal that Kula’s wife was found murdered on 27 November 2022, in what seemed like a robbery. She was found with a stab wound in her back, but the object that was used for her alleged murder has not been recovered.
The matter was reported by the medical facility where she was allegedly transported to by the accused to receive medical attention. He told the police that he was not present at his home when the incident occurred.
Following thorough investigations by the police linked to the alleged murder, he was arrested on Friday 20 January 2023, and charged with murder. Police investigations are still under way and Kula will remain in police custody until [his] next court appearance," Mamothame adds.
