Kgomotso Mahlobo has been appointed as HOD following the recent senior management meeting that was held in Mahikeng. Mahlobo is replacing the outgoing acting HOD James Mashigo. According to the spokesperson for Human Settlements, Tumelo Maropeng, the appointment of Mahlobo comes 17 months after the HOD’s contract ended. It remained vacant. The provincial government, however, appointed the outgoing Mashigo to hold the fort as the acting HOD whilst necessary recruitment processes were unfolding.

Maropeng also states that MEC Nono Maloyi has since welcomed the appointment of Mahlobo and called on officials within the department to work well with the newly appointed HOD. Maloyi further said that the appointment of Mahlobo brings stability and further fast-tracks their mandate of delivering houses across the province of the North West.

“We only have a few months before the end of the 6th administration, therefore we must double our efforts to ensure that we deliver on our mandate. I have confidence in Ms Mahlobo and I hope the team will work very closely with dedication and determination with her in achieving the departmental mandate,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mahlobo said that her focus is to make sure that all incomplete projects are tackled, as well as other backlogs. She further stated that the narrative and perceptions of the province have to change for the better.
