One dead following Free State accident before Christmas─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 08:51 Sat, 24 Dec 2022

One person died in an accident on the R726 in the Free State just two days before Christmas.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS)’s spokesperson, Sipho Towa says the multi-vehicle accident occurred about 15km from Zastron in the direction of Van Stadensrus in the late afternoon of Friday, 23 December 2023.
Two others are critically injured and four are moderately injured,” Towa said.
This incident followed an accident that occurred in the early hours of the same day on the N6, which claimed at least five lives, about 25km outside of Bloemfontein in the direction of Reddersburg.
Six people were critically injured, two moderately, while three only sustained minor injuries. This accident was the result of two minibus taxis which collided head on with each other.
“Both drivers of the minibus taxis are among the deceased.”
This also comes mere days after 12 people, including children, died on the N1 after a truck and a minibus taxi collided head on between Verkeerdvlei and Winburg.
At least 10 were declared dead on scene, while others were transported to hospital to be treated for injuries sustained. Two more bodies were found on the accident scene during clean-up operations.
In a more recent accident, on 17 December 2022, three lives were lost while four sustained varying injuries after an accident between a bus and a bakkie on the N1 in the Free State.
