In a communique, the spokesperson for the utility, Lele Mamatu, says the Spitskop feeder tripped which caused power loss in Langenhoven Park, Bainsvlei and Limousine. 

He says the estimated time to restore power is not available at the moment.

Mamatu has since apologised for any inconvenience caused by the power outage.

“I can confirm that we are experiencing [power outages] in a number of areas in the city, and this has been from yesterday (Friday 1 December 2022). 

"As a result, we have dispatched a [team] including electricians to attend to the areas that are affected...,”Mamatu adds.

He says some parts have been without power for at least 30 hours, and that efforts have been made to ensure that power is restored to the affected areas.

The loss of power comes as the ailing national power utility Eskom has been implementing blackouts across the country. 

On Friday 2 December 2022, Eskom announced that Stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented from 16:00 until further notice.

"Owing to the breakdown of six generating units at five power stations, the need to conserve emergency generation reserves, as well as the delay in returning to service numerous generating units, Eskom will implement continuous Stage 2 load-shedding from 16:00 until further notice."
