Free State attends to GBVF─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 07:21 Sat, 26 Nov 2022
The Free State Provincial Government will take major steps towards addressing gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) in the province.
Premier Sisi Ntombela will launch the 16 Days of Activism against GBV campaign at Modderpoort, outside Ladybrand, on Sunday.
Her spokesperson, Palesa Chubisi, says the campaign will raise awareness on the devastating impact that GBVF has on women.
The campaign is a United Nations (UN) initiative, which takes place annually from 25 November to 10 December, which is international Human Rights Day.
Chubisi adds this year’s campaign will focus on boys and men, as the province has recorded a high number of GBVF related incidents where men are the alleged perpetrators.
There will be a dialogue between different men’s organisations and well-known men from different spheres of society.
Ntombela says there is a need to instill morals in boys from an early age.
“Gender-based violence is another pandemic, and we need to have these discussions to deter boys from engaging in such acts of violence,” she adds.
