Walking all the way from KwaZulu-Natal to the Western Cape, through almost all nine provinces, is what Siyanda Dlamini is doing to invite peace back into the country.

He has been walking across South Africa since January 2022, across all provinces - town to town, campaigning for peace and stability because he mentions that the country is not developing well. When you go around the country, the extent of homeless youth is worrisome.

“We are not developing our young people for the future, our young people are dying every day and instead of burying people of old age, we’re burying young people. Someone must take a stand and find a solution,” he said.

He said that he is walking to raise awareness and he runs different campaigns in a few towns around the country. He helps out where he can, like building schools and visiting towns to have clean-up campaigns.

“At night, if there is not a guesthouse available to help me, I will put up my tent at a petrol garage and sleep. I have never been robbed, instead, a lot of people are celebrating what I am doing, I do come across criminals, but the moment they see me, they tend to be more interested in what I am doing,” Dlamini added.

“I want peace so that people will be free from anger and poverty. I believe peace is one of the ingredients of economic growth. I want us to create opportunities for ourselves and others. That is why we must restore peace in our country so that we will be able to develop ourselves, all of us. We need to come together as one,” he said on his Facebook Page where his journey can be followed at Peace Walk 2022.

Dlamini has walked through parts of the Free State earlier this month and mentioned that he had visited a number of towns in the Free State and Northern Cape where he had clean-up campaigns and helped out where he could.

He loves engaging with the future of our country, delighting and informing the young people of what would be required in order to achieve job creation and economic stability - a better future for us all.

Dlamini walks alone and will not be ending his journey anytime soon, instead, he will be joined by 20 other people next year who were intrigued by his story and was interested in joining him on his walk for peace.
