Mahika-Mahikeng festival postponed to 2023─── 10:17 Sat, 05 Nov 2022
The Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation in North West has notified stakeholders that the Mahika-Mahikeng Cultural Music Festival has been postponed to March 2023.
The festival, which was scheduled to take place from 8 to 10 December, will now take place from 9 to 11 March 2023.
According to the department, the decision was necessary to ensure compliance with supply management laws, regulations and practices as far as the awarding of the tender is concerned.
Departmental spokesperson, Shuping Sebolecwe, says the changes in dates will also enable the department to adequately plan, undertake meticulous supply chain management processes, and host a successful event given its nature and impact.
The festival was last hosted in 2018 and was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sebolecwe says the event has proven to be one of the most loved entertainment events that attract a huge number of people to Mahikeng - boosting tourism, hospitality and transportation during its staging.
He said the decision to postpone was done in the best interest of fairness, transparency and good governance.
