Anti-corruption summit held for North West businesses─── HEIDRÈ MALGAS 09:20 Sun, 09 Oct 2022
An anti-corruption summit was held for businesses in the North West.
The Executive Mayor of the Bojanala District Municipality, Matlakala Nondzaba, who hosted the summit, said corruption is depriving the people of services they need and is costing the government a lot of money.
"Corruption is cancerous. It has denied all of us here an opportunity to enjoy a better life. So stop corrupting our officials," said Nondzaba.
Nondzaba clarified that when someone was given the chance to provide goods or services but produced substandard work, it implied that both the business owner and the government were losers.
"Business must also carry the responsibility of our successes and failures of government's service delivery, because we entrust you to do the job," Nondzaba said.
She also pointed out that officials caught with their hands in the cookie jar will not be spared.
"We will not tolerate corruption," she added.
To own a piece of the local economy, Nondzaba pleaded with the businesses to cooperate more and compete less. She lamented the fact that the majority of enterprises were simply project-based and not sustainable.
She urged business to enhance value already present.
Additionally, the executive mayor is running a campaign to purchase 20 wheelchairs, which will be given out throughout the district.
The North West Special Investigations Unit's advocate, Mamokete Ramoshaba, discussed the work of her organisation and urged business to always follow the law.
A pledge against corruption was signed at the end of the meeting under the leadership of Nondzaba.
Senior managers and Members of the Mayoral Committees were there as well.
