NEC addresses Lejweleputswa municipality | News Article

Members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) will visit the Lejweleputswa District Municipality, which includes Welkom in the northern Free State, on Thursday 29 September 2022.

The African National Congress’ (ANC) Interim Regional Committee's (IRC) regional coordinator, Mogomotsi Riet, says the purpose of the visit is to identify the needs of the community and identify long-term resolutions.

Water and Sanitation Minister, Senzo Mchunu, Department of Employment and Labour Deputy Minister, Pinky Moloi, Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, and Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, are NEC members whose departments need support within Lejweleputswa, which is why they were appointed to attend and ensure that proper channels are pursued.

“This is part of organisational renewal. Remember that, amongst other things we concluded upon as part of that organisational renewal, we said that the movement must be rooted among the people. We must be on the ground, so that we are able to represent the interests and concerns of our people, adequately so, to maintain a vibrant internal democracy,” says Riet.

He adds that these interactions are important for interaction and sharing ideas relevant to what community members would like to have addressed.

Riet says they are anticipating that community members will raise their concerns and frustrations regarding poor delivery services, but are also happy that there has been progress in the region.

OFM News previously reported that Minister Mchunu said a number of interventions had been put in place to help resolve water supply challenges in the country. These include assisting struggling municipalities with financial challenges, skills, as well as other necessary resources.

The meeting between the NEC and IRC is expected to be held from 14:00 – 15:00. Thereafter, the NEC is expected the meet with Matjhabeng branches from 15:00 – 16:30.
