North West municipality refutes claims it spent millions on water boots─── LUCKY NKUYANE 12:05 Sun, 11 Sep 2022
A North West municipality has refuted claims that it had spent millions of rands to purchase water boots.
The Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality refutes that it spent a whopping R7 million on 90 water boots for matriculants at Badibana Secondary School in Deelpan.
The municipality’s spokesperson, Lehlohonolo March, says the allegations are not factual.
He says only around R16 000 was spent to procure 90 water boots that were distributed to matriculants of the aforementioned school during a disaster that was caused by heavy floods which affected many households in March 2022.

“During the Deelpan disaster, the municipality issued various media statements and advisories on all activities, also highlighting all stakeholders as well as roleplayers which were inclusive of Gift of the Givers who were even taking all their sponsored items on-site.
"The Executive Mayor further expressed his disappointment on how a discussion between the Municipality and the Portfolio Committees for the Provincial Legislature is twisted to suit the author of the article doing ghe rounds on media,” March adds.
The municipality has since revealed that for the 2021/22 financial year, an amount of R2 635 371 was approved on 31 May 2021, and was adjusted on 28 February 2022 by Council for disaster relief material not necessarily for Deelpan, but for the entire district.
