'Doctor' accused of rape to apply for bail─── HEIDRÈ MALGAS 08:30 Sat, 03 Sep 2022
The alleged unregistered medical doctor from Kimberley in the Northern Cape, Llunga Kalasa’s bail application has been adjourned to 5 September 2022, after he was accused of raping a 17-year-old patient.
According to a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) regional spokesperson, Mojalefa Senokoatsane, it is alleged that on 15 August 2022, the 17-year-old victim went to the accused's surgery for a medical consultation, and was subsequently raped during a medical examination.

He added that the testimony of the Investigating Officer (IO) provided the court with several reasons why the accused should be denied bail.

The court heard that the 28-year-old accused was not registered with any medical council to operate as a medical practitioner. He did not have legal papers to work in South Africa as he entered the country on a visitors permit, and he was an illegal immigrant.

Furthermore, Senokoatsane added that Kalasa is facing a charge of sexual assault that was also postponed to 5 September 2022, after he had allegedly sexually assaulted a 25-year-old patient in April 2022.

The prosecutor will be adding additional charges against the accused.
