Mahikeng appoints first female municipal manager─── 12:48 Sat, 06 Aug 2022
The Ngaka Modiri Molema district municipality has made history with the appointment of Advocate Dineo Mongwaketse, as the new municipal manager.
Mongwaketse is the first woman to be appointed by the council as municipal manager - a historic move for the municipality, and significant seeing as it is Women's Month.
Municipal spokesperson, Gaolatlhe Nkoane, says the municipality is confident that her appointment will assist in attending to long-standing problems including nepotism, incompetence, and corruption.
OFM News earlier reported that Mongwaketse's predecessor - Thabo Mokoena - was recently granted R50 000 bail.
He is facing charges of contravening the Municipal Finance Management Act, among others. These charges are linked to more than R92 million rand invested in the now defunct VBS Mutual Bank in 2017.

Nkoane says Mongwaketse holds qualifications in law and commerce, and has served in senior management.
Her appointment comes at a time when the municipality requires a turnaround on administrative and operational levels.
Meanwhile, North West National Prosecuting Authoring spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, confirmed that Mokoena is expected to appear before the Molopo regional court on 6 September 2022.
